About Counselling for Today

At Counselling for Today, the focus is on how counselling works and how you will be supported throughout the process.

You are supported by Bernadette Staunton, an experienced clinical counsellor offering a calm, thoughtful, and compassionate approach to therapy.

A safe and supportive environment is at the heart of the work — a space where you can feel heard, understood, and gently supported as you explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences at your own pace.

A Thoughtful & Compassionate Approach

Many people come to counselling with a mix of feelings — some clear and easy to name, others more difficult to understand.

You are welcomed exactly as you are, without judgment or expectation.

Healing often begins when we gently turn toward the different parts of ourselves — not only the parts we value, but also those we may criticise, avoid, or find difficult to accept.

Through this process, counselling becomes a space for greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and meaningful change.

How We Work Together

The approach at Counselling for Today is grounded in person-centred and trauma-informed counselling, with a strong focus on your individual experiences, values, and strengths.

Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, sessions are thoughtfully tailored to your unique needs.

After an initial conversation, we work together to understand what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to gain from the process.

From there, a gentle and collaborative plan may be developed, supporting:

  • Understanding underlying challenges
  • Building resilience and emotional awareness
  • Strengthening self-compassion
  • Creating practical, meaningful change

Counselling is a collaborative process. You are supported with care, respect, and professional guidance every step of the way.

What to Expect in Counselling

Sessions are guided at your pace, with space to talk openly, reflect, and explore what feels important to you.

There is no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with, and no expectation to have everything figured out.

Over time, many people begin to notice greater clarity, emotional understanding, and a stronger sense of balance in their daily lives.
